![]() ![]() Nearly any in-game enemy (even from other mods) can be a potential nemesis. Instead, you awaken in a nearby location, with the creature that felled you having earned a level-up of their own in the process-your own, freshly-minted Nemesis. When defeated in combat, you aren't forced to load a save. (Image credit: Bethesda, modded by syclonix)Įmulating the best feature of the Shadow of Mordor series that somehow isn't yet an industry standard, the Shadow of Skyrim adds a full nemesis system. Brynjolf and the Riften Guild - Birthright We've collected some really impressive location overhauls to expand your Skyrim experience along with some huge quest mods to take you on new adventures. Skyrim may be a huge place, but modders are always finding ways to make it bigger. You may also want to check out Immersive Sounds for a huge overhaul of Skyrim's sound effects. Make SSE more realistic for your ears with this mod, though note it only works if you play exclusively in first-person. "HRTF (Head Related Transfer Functions) refers to the way that the curvature of one's ears are used to localize sound in 3D space." I don't know exactly what that first sentence means, but I understand the second one. Binaural 3D Surround Sound for Headphones - HRTF For instance, tab will always take you back a stage and enter will let you select an option even when you're crafting and would normally have to mouse back over it. It also improves the keyboard controls in a few ways. You have no idea how much better this tiny quality-of-life tweak makes things. Increases the clickable areas of menu items so they're the actual width of the item rather than just an absurd little square in the middle of it. So why does the SSE disable achievements if you've got mods running? Stick it to 'em by using this plugin from xSHADOWMANx that lets you earn achievements even while using mods. Just because you're modding doesn't mean you're cheating (necessarily). There are two versions to download, and the Best of Both Worlds version lets you keep all the Creation Club content added by the Anniversary Edition. If the Anniversary Edition update is causing your favorite mods grief (we're talking about Simply Knock here), this will roll you back to Special Edition version 1.5.97. There's a sculpt mode if you want to get right into messing with the geometry of your head, and you can turn the light illuminating your face on and off to see how your features will look in different situations, which is a blessing. RaceMenuĪn improved character creation menu with numeric displays for all sliders and the ability to choose any color for your hair, skin, or other tints rather than being limited based on race. If you've got Project Proteus installed, uninstall and replace it with Proteus instead. There are a bunch of other tweaks as well. The new version runs faster, and when swapping between characters you now switch to their location rather than them being summoned to you, making for a more GTA 5 kind of experience. Proteus replaces an older version called Project Proteus. ![]() Some of what Proteus makes possible is already doable with Skyrim's console commands and existing mods, but this brings it all together in a single pop-up menu. It also lets you edit NPCs and items, even the weather. NPCs who have died remain dead, items left in storage can be retrieved, and so on. ![]() While you could switch to another savegame to play your Khajiit archer for a while, Proteus lets you import your characters into an existing world state-meaning you can switch to a character with their own items, skills, and spells, but keep your current quest progression. Plenty of fans have taken it upon themselves to fix bugs, optimize and overhaul systems, and make the user interface more to their liking. Or maybe they've modded full, networked multiplayer into the game. We all know the reputation Bethesda's games have. The easiest way to do that is to install it separately for every single game you want to mod. One downside to Mod Organizer 2 is that if you plan to mod multiple different games with it, switching between them can be a hassle. If you really care about how neat your folders look, Mod Organizer 2 is probably for you. Mod Organizer 2Īs an alternative to Vortex, Mod Organizer 2 is meant for modders who plan to do a lot of experimenting, keeping separate profiles and installing then uninstalling various mods. ![]() Make sure to download the version that lets you pick a custom install installation if you don't have Skyrim on your C drive. It's simple to use, and it works with a number of other games like the Fallout series, the Witcher series, Darks Souls, XCOM 2, and lots more. For downloading, installing, and managing Skyrim Special Edition mods, we recommend Vortex. ![]()

Photos and illustrations can be edited or created in Photoshop and Illustrator and then easily brought over in InDesign to populate a layout. Additionally, many small businesses or private commercial organizations like Etsy shops or local bands can greatly benefit from having individuals on staff with InDesign training, as the program helps non-professionals make professional-grade graphic page layouts.Īdditionally, because InDesign is so closely integrated with the rest of the Adobe Creative Cloud, users who are familiar with other programs can seamlessly integrate their work in other programs into their layout designs. Visual design skills can help users share information in memorable and effective ways, and learning InDesign will help anyone hoping to communicate with the masses. InDesign also has numerous non-professional uses for users who are hoping to create eye-catching posters, infographics, or flyers for their own organizations or communities. InDesign also lets users easily create templates or replicate pages to streamline the multi-page design process. Users can add text, color, and images to their layouts to ensure they communicate what they are trying to communicate. While it is primarily used in traditional print media, InDesign is seeing increasing use in the digital sphere, such as the world of ePublishing and website design. Creatives will use InDesign to build prototype layouts for everything from brochures to web pages, and the program has tools for populating those prototypes with graphics, texts, and even interactive elements. Unlike its sister programs, Illustrator and Photoshop, InDesign serves a specific but vital function, building page layouts. ![]() As part of a heavily integrated array of creative tools, Adobe InDesign gives creatives the chance to create compelling and vibrant page layouts. Built to streamline the process of designing page layouts for books and magazines, InDesign has a plethora of uses that make it a versatile tool for many creative endeavors. Together with Photoshop and Illustrator, InDesign is one of the most commonly used creative design tools across a number of industries, ranging from publishing to graphic design. ![]() Released in 1999, Adobe InDesign is the industry standard in page layout design software, and it is one of the software programs that comprise the Adobe Creative Cloud. However, general consensus suggests that mastering Adobe InDesign will take a few weeks to a few months of dedicated training, with part-timer learners taking longer. For students looking to gain a basic understanding of building layouts, inserting and modifying text and images, and preparing their work for publication using Adobe InDesign, the program can be learned in as little as one to two days. It provides a great simulation experience, with the ability to edit city’s skate parks, and all of the games social features, certainly make it a step up from previous installments. Skate 3 is a game aimed at fans of the sport. Often it will struggle to find the right angle for the action, switching position at inopportune moments to make your character harder to control. Unfortunately, the games one big problem is its camera. This could in large part be down to the fact that the world’s inhabitants are quite thin on the ground with the online social aspects meant to populate the environment – a choice that leaves the city feeling like a ghost town much of the time. Despite its large, solid, and varied open-world, nothing about it will really wow you. It is this level of difficulty and reward that really elevates Skate 3 as a simulation. The same depth applies to the rest of the tricks, with more technical moves - such as one and two handed grabs – demanding true skill to pull off. Combos and tricks require deft use of the sticks to execute, with moves like an Ollie requiring a quick flick of the right stick down and then up. Board movement is executed with the right analog stick, while you control the movement of your skater the left (this really is one for gamepad). The only other thought about Limbo that seems reasonable is that this could make a simple and effective iOS game. In fact, we’re not sure it’d be very fun to be pulled out of the world to compare achievements and scores, so Playdead may have unwittingly saved Limbo from being less of an experience by doing such a ho-hum job of distracting people who were trying to have it. While it’s true that very little was done with the “scoreboard” facet of the game, it’s so entirely unconnected to the feel of actually playing that there’s nothing lost by it. One could take issue with how Limbo’s leaderboard and achievements are utterly lackluster, but we’ll give Playdead a full pass on this. The simple controls and the youthful protagonist may lead someone to think Limbo is tailored to a younger crowd, but don’t believe it. There’s no arguing that Limbo is not a child’s game. Let’s face it: If you aren’t bothered by seeing a child (even in silhouette) being stabbed, crushed, drowned, cut in half or electrocuted, then it might be time to ask yourself some tough questions about your emotional health. If one were to raise an eyebrow, it could very well be at the gruesome and unsentimental violence, which is even more disturbing because it’s perpetrated against a helpless boy. Little more could be asked from a game this complete and self-contained. There are few legitimate criticisms that can be levied against Limbo: It’s got a unique theme that you’ve never seen anywhere else, interesting and challenging puzzles, a huge serving of mood and atmosphere, is packed to capacity with content from beginning to end, and wears a decent price tag. This isn’t meant to say that the modern MMORPG or online team-shooter isn’t a great load of fun, but Limbo takes you quietly by the hand to a place where few other games try (or know how) to go. It’s the sort of game about which you’d tell your friend “try it this weekend”, as opposed to the sort of game where you feel like you’re signing a membership contract (complete with all the responsibilities and fees). It seems that, in so many ways, Limbo reflects some attitudes that were part of an era when we didn’t expect to see photorealistic graphics and we didn’t think of social networking as a checkbox feature. It’s also worth mentioning that Limbo has an enormously creative and memorable ending - very much worth sticking it out. Though most reviews you’ll read (including this one) applaud the look and feel, it really comes down to lot of smart puzzles that demand some nonlinear thinking and often reward a bit of creativity. The best of what Limbo has to offer, however, is good, old fashioned gameplay. You’ll often find yourself playing five or ten minutes at a time, knocking out a couple of puzzles and then coming back later to knock out a few more. The immediacy of Limbo is a welcome design quality. Thankfully, Limbo is forgiving to mistakes after death, you re-appear intact right next to the puzzle where you left it and aren’t forced to repeat dozens of steps to return to the spot where you made a wrong move. ![]() In fact, you’ll often learn the parameters of a deadly puzzle by accidentally walking into it the wrong way, and the next thing you know, your severed head is rolling down a hill. It is a world in which you will always feel very alone.Īs you travel through this landscape, you’ll find that a little boy can die in a number of surprising and horrifying ways. Interestingly, there are no in-game tutorials or hints at any point, which only underlines further how the only help you’ll get is your own mind. Limbo does the same everyone and everything around you hates you. It reminds us of ID Software’s original Doom game of almost 20 years ago in which you were surrounded by demons and satanic iconography without having any back story or explanation. Unlike simple Hollywood-inspired thinking which assumes that something gets scarier, the more you explain it, Limbo tells you nothing and lets your imagination fill in the details. ![]() Mood is why Limbo stands apart from other games that try to create immersion and tone. You’ve never seen anything quite like Limbo in any other game, and what it offers your eyes is very much a joining point between “design” and “artistry”. The world is stitched together with dark, gauzy, black and white layers that have a rich (though sometimes cold) celluloid tone. You run, jump or climb over the jagged, ruined terrain where everything that moves - living or not - is trying to brutally murder you. From there, you forage forth in an attempt to merely stay alive and press forward. Limbo plops you, a nameless little boy, on the 2D horizon of a dystopian world in which there’s no safety and no ally. ![]() ![]() ![]() What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
